David Ota, MD
Professor of Surgery

David Ota, MD, is principal investigator and group co-chair of
the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG), a multicenter
cooperative group which is funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). He is
also professor of Surgery at the Duke University School of Medicine, where the
ACOSOG administrative headquarters is based.
He received his doctor of medicine degree from the University of
Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed his residency in surgery at
the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Dr Ota joined the surgical
staff at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 1980. He has held
positions as chief, Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Missouri
Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr Ota has
been a member of the NCI Subcommittee H Review Panel for Cooperative Groups,
and a member of the National Institutes of Health Clinical Oncology Study
Section for 6 years. He is currently a member of the NCI Subcommittee, “A
Review Panel for Cancer Center Support Grants.”
Dr Ota’s research interests have focused on mechanisms of
metastasis in colorectal cancer and other solid tumors. He has a strong
interest in education for clinical research. Dr Ota has authored over 145
articles. He is a member of several scientific and surgical organizations.
