Sandra Henderson

Sandra Henderson, colorectal cancer, cancer trial participant
A Powerful Combination of Science and Spirit

Diagnosed with advanced colorectal cancer at the age of 44, Sandra knew unequivocally that she would survive: “If you think this might be it, but you don’t think you’re ready yet, you’ve got to fight.”

With an invaluable entourage of support, Sandra met with Dr A. William Blackstock, Associate Professor, Wake Forest University, from whom she heard about a clinical trial possibility. Says Dr Blacksotck, “Patients from underserved communities need the opportunity to participate in novel clinical trials available through the cooperative groups.” Sandra's Phase I trial consisted of a chemotherapy/radiation regimen using preoperative oxaliplatin, 5FU, and external beam radiation.
